Online Content Moderation

The seminar is based on the doctoral thesis of Silvia A. Carretta (of the same title) and will explore the distinction between regulation ‘of’ platforms (binding public legislation) and regulation ‘by’ platforms (self-regulation, co-regulation, and private rule-making through T&Cs), and how these frameworks interact, overlap, and sometimes conflict in shaping online content governance.

Joining her in a panel discussion on key issues under the Digital Services Act – including systemic risk assessments, obligations for Very Large Online Platforms, algorithmic transparency, user redress, and the role of independent oversight – to name a few, are Ängla Pändel and Eric Luth with insights from practice.
