Petr, from Charles University, Czech Republic

As he wasn't able to commit to a long mobility due to his study load, Petr, from Charles University in the Czech Republic, looked for shorter-term options and decided to attend SULaw's Summer Programme.

I immediately knew it was the right match for me. It had a perfect mixture of school and free time activities.

Why did you choose to participate in SULaw’s Summer Programme 2023?

I have always wanted to participate in the Erasmus program, but due to studying two masters simultaneously I never had a chance to do so. One day, I decided that I wanted to change it, but my options were time-limited only to summer holidays. I started looking for my different possibilities. I came across SULaw’s summer program, and I immediately knew it was the right match for me. It had a perfect mixture of school and free time activities.

Which courses did you choose and why did you choose them?

I chose to study "International Human Rights Litigation" & "Intellectual Property and Human Rights". I have always been interested in issues related to human rights on both domestic and global levels, so deciding which courses to take was easy for me. At my home university, I particularly enjoyed one course focused on the comprehension of ECHR cases. That inspired me to broaden my knowledge even more. Alongside my legal studies, I also obtained a bachelor's diploma in Political science and international relations, so the courses I attended at SULaw’s summer program perfectly combined my two degrees.

What are your tips and tricks to make the most of the course(s) and your stay at SULaw?

I would definitely recommend asking as many questions as possible. To be honest, I’m not a really big fan of home preparation, so I was happy that the readings we had were not that long and that the professors also led the courses in a more friendly way. Because of that, it was easy to start a discussion in which you could see different outlooks on the topic(s) given.

What did you enjoy the most during your stay in Stockholm?

It sounds really cliché, but I most enjoyed the new friends I made in Stockholm. My session was quite small (editor's note: 28 students in Petr’s session), so it was easy to get to know almost everyone even though we had zero courses together. After a few days, I already had the best group of friends, and we spent almost every single day together doing all kinds of fun activities. One day, we had a picnic by the lake, which was 10 minutes away from the dorms (Lappis), and the other day, we went to the Lollapalooza music festival which was happening on the weekend. I still talk to almost everyone on a daily basis and I’ve even visited some of them in their home countries.

Why should other students choose to study our Summer programme?

It is a perfect way to meet new people from all around the world and also gain academic knowledge. That sounds perfect, right?

How would you summarize SULaw Summer programme with 3 words?
