Hello Nelly,

Which university and which country are you from?

I am a 4th Year Law Student at Strathmore University, in Nairobi, Kenya.

Why did you choose to participate in SULaw’s Summer programme 2025?

I chose to participate in the SULaw Summer programme 2025 to give me a chance to immerse myself in a culturally rich environment as I studied Intellectual Property and Trade Law, which are amongst my interests. Stockholm University provides one of the most expertise-based courses in Intellectual Property Law and I could not pass up this opportunity.

Which course(s) did you choose and why did you choose them?

I undertook two courses; Trade Agreements, Protectionism and Free Trade, and Protection of Intellectual Property Rights in Online and Virtual Environments. I chose both of these courses as a springboard to endeavor into the research and policy innovation space, particularized within the African continent and diaspora.

I enjoyed the hospitality of the Swedes.

What are your tips and tricks to make the most of the course(s) and your stay at SULaw?

  • Immerse yourself in the reading- it makes for a very engaging conversation in classes.
  • Ask questions and relate what you learn in class, with current affairs.
  • Carry a waterproof jacket or umbrella- it rains a lot!
  • Have a list of fun activities and restaurants you’d like to try ahead of time to ensure you have fun there. Sweden has very many museums, and it would be very fun for the future students to try and visit as many as possible.

What did you enjoy the most during your stay in Stockholm?

I enjoyed the hospitality of the Swedes, and the beautiful culture and activities. One of my major highlights was participating in a game at Gröna Lund, where I ended up winning 2KG of chocolate!

Of the studies, I enjoyed how engaging the classes are, and how we, as students could relate the classes to our home countries.

Why should other students choose to study our Summer programme?

I’d encourage other students to participate in this programme for it to widen their scope in their desired field of work as they continue with their law studies.

How would you summarize SULaw Summer programme with 3 words?

Engaging, educative and empowering, because of the opportunity it presents to me, as a budding law student
