Student Counselling

The Student Counsellors are an important contact for you as a student. We can help you make an informed educational choice. You can turn to us with questions concerning, for example, disability, course structure, course content, study breaks, credit of previous studies, degrees and individual study plans. We can also be a contact link to other resources within the university.

Help with the studies - solve the study problems

Do not worry if you feel that it is difficult with the studies! Contact us for help and support and / or the Academic Writing Service at Stockholm University. In fact, most things can be sorted out just by meeting and talking about what your study situation looks like.

When you start your studies, it is important that you quickly acquire a study technique that is suitable for academic studies. These differ from high school studies, but just by being in a foreign country and different educational sytem and culture could prove difficult.

Should you have any problems, contact Student Counsellor as soon as possible!

Form study groups

Studying with friends is often a very good way to keep your studies going but also learn a lot. Try to form a study group with three or four peers to work together during different parts of the education.

Disability / variation, for example dyslexia

If you have any form of disability, you should contact us already at registration to discuss how you can best set up your studies with us and apply for support.

More information can be found here: Study with a disability

Study break

If for any reason you think you need to interrupt your studies, contact your student counsellor or director of studies. You can also send an e-mail to the students office.

When you have finished your studies and want to apply for the award of a qualification, you should apply to receive a degree certificate (diploma). To receive the degree certificate you must have fulfilled all of the requirements.

Have you already taken a course that overlaps with one offered in your current studies?
Or have you completed studies abroad within one of our subject areas?
If so, you may apply for a transfer of credits.

How Credit Transfer Works
To have your previous studies officially recognised, you must be a registered student at Stockholm University.
You apply by submitting a credit transfer form with documentation such as course syllabi and transcripts.
Once received, your application will be reviewed and either approved or rejected. Processing can take several weeks.

Before You Apply
You only need to apply for credit transfer if your previous studies replace part of a course or programme you plan to include in your degree.
If you have taken a basic-level course at another Swedish university and have been admitted to a higher-level course here within the same subject, you usually do not need a formal transfer.

Important to Know

  • A transfer may affect your student aid (e.g. if you transfer 7.5 credits of a 30-credit course, you only receive aid for the remaining 22.5).
  • Processing times vary—apply early.
  • Credit transfer decisions do not generate new grades.
  • The decision only applies to the specific degree or programme in question.

How to Apply
Contact student counsellor for the form.
Attach required documents (transcripts, syllabi, proof of course content).
Submit your application to the Department of Media Studies.
Wait for the written decision via email.
If you cannot find the answer to your question here, please contact us (see below).
