Project Assistant in Astroparticle Physics – IceCube

Project description
You will be part of the IceCube group at the Division of Particle Physics. The work is carried out in connection with an education- and research-related project linked to the IceCube collaboration and involves method and instrumentation development as well as data analysis in searches for new physics (e.g. exotic particles).
The position is designed as a traineeship/internship within the context of higher education.
Main responsibilities
- Calibration of detector components such as photomultipliers and measuring instruments
- Participation in planning, implementation of systematic test measurements and documentation of results
- Data management, analysis of experiment- and/or IceCube-related data sets, including introduction to relevant software structures and analysis tools
- Participation in group meetings and seminars, as well as oral presentation of the work process.
Qualification requirements
We are looking for someone who has the following:
- Admitted to a master's programme (or equivalent) at a university abroad
- Documented experience of studies or project work in astroparticle physics and/or detector physics
- Documented ability to communicate in English in academic contexts
- Basic programming skills (e.g. Python) and experience of data analysis or numerical methods
- Good academic results and relevant subject background in physics/technical physics or related
- Experience in programming and data analysis
- Ability to work in a structured manner and document your work
- Ability to collaborate and interest in research-related development work.
