The Department offers a choice of courses and Programs, both at Bachelor and Advanced level.

We also offer Post-graduate education, which leads to a Ph D degree within the areas of Romance languages and Classical languages.

Within the field of Romance Languages, you can study courses in literature and linguistics at advanced level in Spanish, French, Portuguese and Italian. In addition to courses in the language of your choice, you will study courses with students from the other languages. This creates a dynamic and inspiring environment.

Doctoral studies lead to a PhD, the highest academic degree in Sweden. At the Department of Romance Studies and Classics, you can earn a PhD in either Romance languages or Classics. The PhD programme is four years, but it can be combined with teaching or other tasks at the department, which extends the study period. The studies include courses and dissertation work. You will develop your skills in a scientific approach, learn to think critically and analytically, and receive training to formulate theoretically relevant research questions independently and answer them using adequate methods. In addition, you will have the opportunity to get ethical awareness. You will also be able to work independently as well as to collaborate with other researchers.

The aim of the PhD studies is to lay a foundation for further research activities and to make the doctoral student suitable to perform tasks that require a scientific approach and / or a very high level of competence in the subject area.
