All students at our department who indend to graduate with a degree at Stockholm University are eligible to apply for studies abroad via the Erasmus program. You will receive ongoing guidance throughout the application process, before, during, and after the exchange.
What are the requirements for applying for an Erasmus exchange spot?
At the time of application, you must have completed course I, 30 credits (French I, Italian I, Portuguese I, or Spanish I), and have either completed or be enrolled in Course 2, 30 credits (French II, Italian II, Portuguese II, or Spanish II). You can also be enrolled in Course I if you plan to go on exchange the following spring semester, as you will have time to complete Course II in the fall semester.
To go on exchange, at least 60 credits (courses I + II) must be completed by the end of the semester before your stay abroad (preparatory courses may not be included in these 60 credits).
Studies at the partner university must be transferable to our department after the exchange.
You must be an active student at Stockholm University at the time of application, meaning you are enrolled in a course and intend to apply for a degree from Stockholm University.

When and how do I apply?
The department announces places within the Erasmus program one time each semester. The application periods are 15 January-15 February, and 15 August-15 September. These apply to the coming fall and/or spring semesters. Late applications will not be accepted.
To apply, contact the Study Counsellor/International Coordinator of your subject well in advance of the deadline to schedule a meeting prior to submitting the application. During the meeting, you will receive information about what it means to be an exchange student and an application form to apply for an exchange spot. The application must include, among other things, a motivational letter in the language which you will be studying abroad in, and academic transcripts.
After the application deadline, the department will decide upon which students may be nominated for exchange within the Erasmus program. All applicants will be notified of the results individually.
If there are more qualified applicants than there are available places within the Erasmus program, priority will be given to those with the most credits completed at Stockholm University, as documented in Ladok by the application deadline. Credits completed at other universities are not included. If applicants have the same number of credits, a lottery will be used to select which student will be nominated.
After nomination
Students nominated for exchange studies are expected to take courses equivalent to French III, Italian III, Spanish III, or Portuguese III, 30 ECTS. Courses are chosen in consultation with the Study Counsellor/International Coordinator for each subject.
Note that the Department of Romance Studies and Classics must approve the student's course selection prior to departure, along with any changes made after arrival. This is done through a Digital Learning Agreement (DLA).
During your stay abroad, you are eligible to apply for student aid for studies abroad with CSN. Consult CSN for more information about this process. There is also a specific Erasmus Grant for Erasmus students. The International Office at Stockholm University is responsible for the Erasmus Grant.
