Doctoral (PhD) studies
As a PhD student you will be trained in the scientific way of thinking, both critically and analytically. During your studies you will undertake independent problem solving with the choice of right methods, as well as gain research ethical awareness.
PhD studies usually take four years to complete. If combined with teaching responsibilities or other work assignments, the study period can be extended. PhD studies consist of coursework, research, and completing a doctoral dissertation. After defending your dissertation and meeting all other requirements, you are awarded a doctoral degree.
PhD studies at the Department of Slavic and Baltic Studies, Finnish, Dutch and German are carried out in four main subject areas: Slavic languages, Baltic languages, Finnish, and German.
