Researchers at the Department of Sociology interact with the community in several ways, including participating in public inquiries, providing expert contributions, and collaborating with various agencies on both specific projects and long-term initiatives.

How we interact with society
Reviewing reports
One example of community engagement is that researchers frequently review reports produced by agencies such as the National Social Insurance Office (Försäkringskassan), Statistics Sweden (SCB), and the National Board of Health and Welfare.
Publishing books and popular science
Researchers also communicate their findings to the broader public through books and popular science publications, including Welfare, a magazine published by Statistics Sweden.
Contributing to boards, committees etc.
In addition, researchers from the Department of Sociology contribute their expertise as members and advisors on various boards, councils, committees, and working groups. These include panels at the Swedish Research Council for Health, Working Life and Welfare (Forte), the Swedish Foundation for Humanities and Social Sciences, and the Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet). They also participate in program councils at Statistics Sweden and the Social Insurance Agency.
Dividing time
Some researchers divide their time between the Department of Sociology and other institutions, such as government agencies and research institutes, further strengthening ties between academia and practice
