Jobs for statisticians are expected to be growing even more, and are available in almost any fields in society. Regardless of your interest, you can find a matching job for a statistician, within medicine, economy, ecology, planning, human rights, and social scienses, among many examples. Statisticians work in many different kinds of organizations, from NGO:s to private companies. There are opportunities for international work, as well as working close to home.

Master's Programme in Statistics
The Master's Programme deepens and broadens your knowledge in statistics and statistical programming. With a foundation of statistical theory and statistical methods, you will be able to specialize in analyzing problems in some particular area of statistical applications according to your interests.
The aims of the program are to provide both greater breadth and greater depth in the statistical discipline. After completion of the programme you can work with qualified statistical analysis in the private or the public sector or continue with PhD studies in statistics. The program gives a good education for anyone who wants to evolve in their statistics carreer, and includes courses in R-programming and Machine Learning as well as Probability theory, Inference theory, Statistical Computation and Multivariate Analysis. A number of optional courses complete the specialization.

Master’s Program in Data Science, Statistics and Decision Analysis
In the autumn semester 2024, the Department of Computer and Systems Sciences is starting a new Master's Program in "Data Science, Statistics and Decision Analysis". The program is given in collaboration with the Department of Statistics. In the first semester, you study a course in Statistics and data analysis and further in the education courses in Statistical theory and modeling as well as Bayesian learning. These courses are given by us at the Department of Statistics.

Studies at the research level in statistics are designed to provide broad subject knowledge in the central parts of statistics, deep knowledge in one statistical area of expertise, ability to apply statistical methods to practical problems and to follow the scientific literature on the subject. As a PhD student you will also be an employed researcher in statistics and conduct your own scientific research.
