Conference theme: Social Studies Education in Times of Curriculum Change

In several Nordic countries, curriculum reforms are either underway or have recently been implemented at different school levels, shaping the subject of social science/social studies and its teaching practices. For teachers, such changes may bring new areas of focus and adjustments in both content and methods. For researchers, these developments raise questions about how teaching adapts and how the reforms in various ways reflect political priorities and intentions. From curriculum theory and social science didactics perspectives, it thus becomes relevant to examine and analyse what takes place across the different curriculum arenas (Goodlad, 1979) – from the ideological to the experienced.

Deadline for Submissions: February 9, 2026

For the NOKSA conference, we particularly welcome contributions addressing changes in curriculum and syllabi in the Nordic countries across different arenas and levels, but we also invite submissions that in broader terms, explore the subject of social science in society, schools, and higher education.
