Higher seminar in Translation Studies. Guest researchers at the Institute for Interpreting and Translation Studies, PhD Ariadne Nunes, Universidade Nova Lisboa, PhD Joana Moura, Universidade Católica Portuguesa and PhD Marta Pacheco Pinto, Universidade de Lisboa, Portugal.

In 2015, Anthony Cordingley and Chiara Montini announced a new field of research located at the intersection between Translation Studies and Genetic Criticism, which they proposed to call Genetic Translation Studies (GTS). The genetic approach analyses the practices of the “working translator and the evolution, or genesis, of the translated text by studying translators’ manuscripts, drafts and other working documents” (Cordingley & Montini 2015: 1).

In this seminar, each of the speakers will present one to two case studies of recent research within the field of Genetic Translation Studies. We will deal with translators’ archives, drafts (theatre and poetry), language and translation memoirs, marginalia, pseudo-translation, and the editing of translations.
