Business Administration: Classics and Research Frontiers (Doctoral course, 7,5 ECTS credits)

This course surveys key classical and contemporary works that have significantly influenced business administration and it does so by including works from accounting, finance, management and marketing. - The four subdisciplines of business administration.

An active researcher from each subdiscipline will lecture about their particular classics and contemporary works. The ambition is to offer classical works for each subdisciplines, point out commonalities between the subdisciplines but also bring up what make the subdisciplines differ.

Course content

The course has two aims:

  • Study each subdiscipline’s classics and contemporary works
  • Reflect upon what unites and what are the key elements that differ between the subdisciplines

Each subdiscipline will be responsible for 2 sessions, each session being 2 hours. Lectures will focus on underlying assumptions for the particular subdiscipline, dominant methodologies and theories. Furthermore, as business administration is related to society links to contemporary issues in practice such as firms, organisations, professions and society at large will be discussed.

Course structure and schedule

The course consists of 8 lectures. All course sessions take place in Meeting Room 79, House 2, 6th floor.

November 3 – Lecture Day 1, 12:00-15:00, Introduction & Accounting classics – the auditing profession, this lecture will be via zoom
November 4 – Lecture Day 2, 9:00-11:00, Contemporary issues in accounting research, debt and indebtedness, this lecture will be via zoom.

November 18 – Lecture Day 3, 12.00-14.00, Classics in finance, Campus Albano
November 19 – Lecture Day 4, 9:00-11:00, Contemporary issues in finance, Campus Albano

December 1 - Lecture Day 5: 12.00-14.00, Classics in management, Campus Albano
December 2 - Lecture Day 6: 9.00-11.00, Contemporary issues in management,  Campus Albano

December 15 - Lecture Day 7: 12.00-14.00, Classics in marketing, Campus Albano
December 16 Lecture Day 8: 9.00-11.00, Contemporary issues in marketing, Campus Albano
