The event will be opened by the Vice President of Stockholm University, Jane Reichel.

Dapo Akande is the Chichele Professor of Public International Law at the University of Oxford and a member of the United Nations International Law Commission. He has held visiting positions in the US, Europe and Australia including at Yale Law School. Dapo is a generalist international lawyer who has worked across many areas of the field. He is one of the authors of Oppenheim’s International Law: The United Nations (2017, OUP). He has served on the editorial or advisory boards of leading journals, including the American Journal of International Law, the European Journal of International Law and the African Journal of International and Comparative Law and was appointed Co-Editor in Chief of the British Yearbook of International Law. 

Professor Akande has served as adviser on a range of international law issues to governments, international organizations and NGOs. He has acted as counsel or expert in cases before the International Court of Justice, the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, the European Court of Human Rights, the African Court of Human and Peoples’ Rights, World Trade Organization dispute settlement panels, international arbitral tribunals as well as in national proceedings in England, Australia, New Zealand, and the United States and is an arbitrators at the International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID). 

Dapo is the United Kingdom candidate for election to the International Court of Justice at the regular elections to take place in 2026.
