About the centre
With an interdisciplinary and practice-oriented approach, the Stockholm Centre for International Law and Justice plays a key role in ensuring that international law remains relevant and impactful in today’s rapidly changing global landscape.

Stockholm Centre for International Law and Justice (SCILJ) was established on February 20, 2012 with the following missions:
- To develop research in international law, especially the relationship between international law and other legal systems and between international law and international politics and ethics;
- To strengthen the links between academia and practice;
- To establish and maintain international contacts, and
- To strengthen the profile of international law at Stockholm University.
The centre shall have an interdisciplinary and practice oriented character and will make international law visible as part of the public discourse.
Research

Research is at the heart of SCILJ. The Centre’s research focuses on international law, examining its intersections with politics, ethics, and other legal systems, addressing a wide range of topics, including human rights, global justice, and legal issues in diverse contexts such as public international law, international politics, and governance.
Education

The Stockholm Centre for International Law and Justice is primarily a research-focused centre and does not independently provide educational programs. However, as part of the Department of Law at Stockholm University, SCILJ members actively lead and teach in the department’s various courses, both at undergraduate and advanced levels.

The Stockholm Centre for International Law and Justice has made available a collection of seminars, lectures and workshops hosted by the Centre, in the form of videos and podcasts. These are openly published and accessible to anyone with an interest in international law.
Events
SCILJ regularly organizes seminars, lectures, and conferences on key topics in international law and justice. Both Swedish and international researchers contribute, often in collaboration with other organizations.
