About the subject
Interest in the Middle East and Northern Africa has increased following the latest development in the area. This has led to a greater need for people with knowledge of the region and of people with Arabic language proficiency. At Stockholm University, you will have the means to require such qualifications.
Within Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures, you can choose to study one of the following:
- Arabic with Middle Eastern and North African Studies
- Middle Eastern and North African Studies
If you want to learn the Arabic language, choose the first option. Arabic is one of the largest languages in the world and the main language in most of the Middle East and North Africa region. By studying Arabic, you will gain understanding of a long and rich cultural tradition, and get a unique insight into contemporary Middle East and North Africa.
If you would rather learn more about the region without the language studies, choose the latter option. You will get the opportunity to immerse yourself in the region's history, literature, social life, cultures, politics and economics.
Studying with us will give you both practical and theoretical skills that will be a merit in working life and for further studies. You can also combine Middle Eastern and North African studies with studies in other subjects, for example in political science, business administration, social anthropology, ethnology, pedagogy, sociology, history and linguistics.
