Welcome Activities

Stockholm University organises a series of welcome activities at the beginning of each semester.

The activities are designed to assist you as a new student and introduce you to university life in Stockholm and Sweden. The programme is voluntary (attendance is optional) and includes an Arrival Service and an Orientation Day, see more details about these events below.

22-28 August – join us on Instagram!

During the week, we will focus on our newly admitted students and share tips and useful information. Follow @stockholmuniversity to not miss out on that and other happenings at SU. 

 

20-21 August: Arrival Service

The Arrival Service is the first event of the Welcome activities and is open to all new international and exchange students at Stockholm University. Student ambassadors and university staff will welcome you and help you settle into your new life in Stockholm and Sweden.

23 August: Orientation Day

An important part of the Welcome activities is called Orientation Day – a welcoming day for newly arrived international students, filled with information about practical matters such as healthcare, IT services, student life and Swedish language courses.

26 August: Welcome Fair & social activities

At the Welcome Fair you can meet the representatives of the different organisations at the university. In addition to the Welcome Fair you will get the chance to participate in several activities like speed friending and a pub crawl as well as sport activities.

This presentation from the university’s Academic Writing Service aims to help you get your studies at Stockholm University started on the right foot. The presentation will cover topics such as planning, using study time effectively and dealing with course literature. It will also discuss how you can get support when you need it.

Do you want to take better notes during lectures in different languages? In this hands-on workshop, associate professor Joseph Siegel presents strategies for utilizing the languages you know in order to make your lecture notes matter.

Speed Friending will be arranged for both new international and Swedish students together, on three occasions. Take the chance to make lots of new friends and to meet the Stockholm University Student Union.

Do you want to help other students learn and practice your languages, and make new friends at Stockholm University and around the world? Språkstudion invites all students interested in volunteering as Language Cafe coordinators during the autumn term of 2022 to an information meeting.

The capital of Sweden is your new home town! Join a 45 minutes walking guided tour for all international students and learn the vast and interesting history of Stockholm.

SSIF (Stockholm Student's Sports Association) invites all students at Stockholm University to an open week filled with free training and sports. Get an insight into SSIF, the training they offer, and their instructors, and try your favorite sport or perhaps a new sport for the first time.

Travel to campus

With the underground, take red line 14 towards Mörby Centrum and alight at Universitetet. You can also take bus number 50 from central Stockholm and alight at Universitetsvägen, or go by train with Roslagsbanan from Tekniska Högskolan.
