Bridging programmes - Supplementary Education for Migrant Teachers and Preschool Teachers

Teaching is one of the most important occupations in society. The government commissioned Bridging Programme for Teachers Educated Abroad is a shorter path for people who already have a teacher’s degree. It prepares you to be a certified teacher in Sweden. The teaching language is Swedish.

Subject description

In order to study the Bridging Programme for Teachers Educated Abroad, you must have a preschool teacher’s degree, a teacher’s degree or another degree in a subject in the Swedish school.

In the bridging programme you study courses that are required to get a teacher’s certification in Sweden. If you already have a Swedish teacher or preschool teacher certification, you can study to know more about the Swedish school system and to be certified in additional subjects.

The programme orientations are:

  • Preschool Teacher
  • Compulsory School Teacher (year F-6)
  • Compulsory School Teacher in Leisure-Time Centre (year F-6)
  • Subject Teacher (year 7-9 and Secondary School)

Qualification Requirements

  • Swedish as a second language 3 or equivalent (Secondary School level of Swedish)
  • A completed foreign post-secondary teacher’s degree or another degree in a Swedish school subject
  • That the supplemental studies required are 120 hp/ECTS or less

In the Bridging Programme for Teachers Educated Abroad every student receives a individual study plan. You do not have to apply to its separate courses.

Degree

You can study for a Swedish teacher or preschool teacher's degree or following a recommendation by The National Agency for Education (Skolverket).

If you study for a degree, you receive the degree from Stockholm University. Then you apply for a teaching certificate at The National Agency for Education (Skolverket).

If you follow the recommendation from The National Agency for Education, you receive a certificate from the university. This you send to submit to The National Agency for Education (Skolverket) when you apply for a teaching certificate.
