Education in Culture and Society

School Curricular Teaching and Learning programs in Sweden comprise the study of curricular content knowledge and applied subject pedagogical theory and best practices. What is the content of a given subject? How can teachers design their lessons in ways that facilitate student development and lifelong engagement in civil society?

Subject description

In Education in Culture and Society our pre-service and in-service program-participants acquire the teaching methods and curricular knowledge necessary for fulfilling their mandates as school teachers within the fields of the visual arts, performing arts, music, history, religious studies, social studies, geography, economics and philosophy. We also provides the teaching profession with in-service courses for teachers wishing to receive specialized training in student-advisor roles and other formal guidance-oriented positions.

Our courses and programs introduce students to the critical concepts necessary for the mastery of domain-specific didactics and assessment methods within the school curriculum. They equip participants with the kinds of tools that will help them achieve a more profound insight into their chosen curricular subject specialization. In addition to courses that cover subjects that have been accorded discrete designations by the national curriculum, HSE also offers courses on subjects with pan-curricular import and scope such as Democracy and Citizenship Education, Communication and Understanding Conflicts, and Arts and Museum Pedagogy.

These courses and programs are designed for both pre-service and in-service students, teachers and educators.
