Improve your vocabulary with flashcard apps!

Wednesday 26 February 2020 10.00 – 12.00

Kårsalen, level 1, Studenthuset A

Are you studying in Swedish or English as a second language? Is vocabulary an obstacle for reading course literature or for your writing?

In this workshop, the Academic Writing Service will guide you through the installation and use of flashcard apps for studying vocabulary.

Flashcards are simply cards with questions on one side and answers on the back and they have long been used as a tool memorising and testing knowledge of course material and vocabulary. Flashcard apps improve on the flashcard idea by building in 'spaced repetition' – they decide exactly how often you need to see different words or concepts to retain them in your long-term memory. They are a powerful learning tool that you can carry with you wherever you go.

In the workshop, we guide you through the process of creating your own vocabulary lists and importing them into popular flashcard apps. We will also discuss strategies for collecting vocabulary. All participants are required to bring a laptop and mobile phone to the workshop.

The workshop will be conducted in English and/or Swedish, depending on the preferences of the participants.

This workshop is delivered with the collaboration and support of the Stockholm University Student Union. Find out more about the Student Union's events and activities at sus.su.se
