Tips for finding your career in Sweden

Your study time is the best opportunity to prepare for working life in Sweden. By building networks, gaining experience, and learning how the Swedish job market works, you increase your opportunities after graduation.

On this page our study and career counsellors share some of their tips about how to get your career in Sweden started. Why not start by watching a short film where Aysha offers advice on how to find a career in Sweden?

Build your network

Many jobs in Sweden are filled through networking rather than public job advertisements. Building a professional network is therefore one of the most effective ways to start your career.

Be proactive and step outside your comfort zone — talk to guest speakers, connect with classmates and alumni, and attend career fairs, employer events and student activities at Stockholm University.

Connect with alumni

Learn from former students and their career paths. Contact your department’s study and career counsellors to find alumni contacts, and join Stockholm University’s alumni network once you have completed a course.

Build your professional profile online

Create a professional LinkedIn profile where you highlight your skills, experiences, and career interests. Follow companies, join discussions, and connect with professionals, alumni, and fellow students.

Create a profile on MyCareer, Stockholm University’s career portal. Here you can find jobs and internships in Sweden and abroad, connect with employers, access career events, and career tips.

Be active and gain experience during your studies

Make the most of your time as a student by building skills, gaining real-world experience, and connecting with future employers.

Do an internship

Internships provide valuable work experience, strengthen your CV, and help you understand Swedish workplace culture while expanding your professional network.

Use your thesis to connect with employers

Collaborating with a company, public authority, or organization during your master’s thesis helps you build professional contacts and work on real-life challenges.
