Middle East: Historical Perspectives

During this course we will concentrate on the nahda period (the renaissance) and study it from the perspective of a number of different themes like nationalism, the East/West binary, the role of women, literature as a tool for reform etc.

Apart from the course literature we will also read texts from the period in translation and discuss them.

The course consists of one module, 7.5 credits.


Teaching Format

Instruction is given in the form of lectures and seminars. The language of instruction is English.

Attendance at all teaching sessions is obligatory.

Assessment

The course is examined on the basis of a written essay assignment.
