Astronomy, Degree Project
This course normally constitutes the completion of your master studies in astronomy and the report is also known as your master thesis. The degree project should be seen as an internship in a research group for half a year during which you will execute a research project but will also become part of the group and experience what it is like to work in a research environment. The project will contain new research and in some cases will lead to the publication of a scientific article.
The course is given every term and can be taken either as a full time or 50% course. It is part of the master programme in astronomy but can also be read as a separate course if you fulfill the eligibility requirements. The research project will make use of English
Together with your supervisor you will produce a description of the planned research project which has to be approved by the examination group.
Teaching Format
The research internship does not involve any scheduled teaching as your project will be individual. You will meet your supervisor for at least one hour every week to receive guidance.
Assessment
The examination will be in the form of both a written scientific report and an oral presentation in the form of a scientific seminar.
Examiner
Your main examiner will be one of the members of the examination group which at the moment consists of Alexis Brandeker and Göran Östlin.
