Political Economy

You are introduced to political economics with a focus on the political economy of development, and given knowledge on a number of important topics in the field of research. The course is part of the Master’s programme in Economics.

The course consists of two main parts. The first covers competing theories on the motives of politicians and how and why politics can lead to market imperfections.

The second is dedicated to a set of important topics within the political economy of development including political institutions, social institutions, the interaction between institutions and culture, violence and conflict, and social mobilization and protests.

This is a 7.5 credit course.

Teaching Format

Instruction is given in the form of lectures. The language of instruction is English.


Assessment

The course is examined on the basis of a written examination.

Examiner

The schedule will be available no later than one month before the start of the course. We do not recommend print-outs as changes can occur. At the start of the course, your department will advise where you can find your schedule during the course.
