Subject description
The basis for the main field of journalism is knowledge of journalistic work processes
and products as well as journalism as an institution in society. The main area unites
vocationally oriented practical elements with theoretical perspectives in journalism.
Studies within the main area provides knowledge about:
- collection, processing, review, design of journalistic material and publication
for different media and media platforms.
-journalism's role in society, its historical development, production conditions and its
media legal and ethical frameworks.
-scientific research methods and forms of presentation. – documentary narration and
social investigative journalism.
Journalism is an interdisciplinary field. Central research areas in the main area
includes critical research perspectives on the roles of journalism in societal transformation as well as on the importance of the media for power, democracy, politics and culture.
The department also hosts a number of large, externally funded research projects, and most of the publications resulting from these are found in high-quality international books and journals. The topics that our journalism scholars address reflect a desire to produce research that is both current and relevant: political scandals, cultural journalism, visual journalism, migration, journalism ethics and WikiLeaks, to name just a few.

The job market for journalists is characterized by very high competition, and a solid education is therefore necessary for those who want to work as a journalist.
