Discourse analysis
How do humans actually use language to communicate? How do speech and writing differ? In what ways do factors like context and cultural influences affect people’s language use? How do people form coherent mental models of texts? These are some of the questions addressed in this course on discourse analysis.

Teaching Format
The teaching comprises seminars. Attendance at a minimum of 80% of the seminars is required in order to complete the course. Active participation is expected from students in all teaching formats in order to pass the examination. Students will often work with different tasks and assignments during the seminars in preparation for the examination. Apart from scheduled teaching, time will be spent reading course literature and completing mandatory assignments.
Assessment
Oral and written assignments.
Deadline for the final written assignment, autumn 2026: 2 November (resubmission 7 December). Information about other assignments will be available on Canvas.
