Spanish, Sociolinguistics
The course includes an introduction to modern sociolinguistic theory and methodology with applications to Spanish-speaking areas. Sociolinguistic research fields and the basic concepts are presented. The course covers the following areas: linguistic variation, bilingualism from a societal and individual perspective, language change and code switch, gender and accommodation theory. How social significance is expressed through language and established in interaction is also discussed.
