Philosophical logic I
Registration
Before the course begins, an email will be sent to all admitted students with information and instructions. Admitted students are expected to register themselves (online registration).
More about the course content: The course covers a brief overview of the history of philosophical logic, such as Aristotle’s theory of syllogisms and the logical ideas of the Stoic and the Megarian schools; necessity and possibility, i.e. alethic modal logic using possible-worlds models and basic Kripke semantics; an introduction to deductive systems for modal logic, such as axiomatic systems, natural deduction, and semantic tableaux; inferences involving temporal concepts and temporal logic; logical systems for the representation of knowledge and belief; an introduction to logics of action and agency; an introduction to intuitionistic and many-valued logic; modalities and quantification, with an informal introduction to first-order modal logic; and an introduction to the logic of conditionals and relevance logic.

Teaching Format
During the spring semester 2026, the course is offered in a hybrid format. Classes are held on campus but are made accessible to distance students by streaming the lectures via Zoom.
Assessment
The course is assessed through take-home assignments.
