Course package in Medical Radiation Physics
If you are interested in the Master’s Programme in Medical Radiation Physics but do not meet the eligibility criteria with respect to the mandatory courses, the preparatory Course Package is for you.
The course package is aimed for students with a strong background in physics that want to meet the prerequisites for admission to the Master program in Medical Radiation Physics (NMSFO)
The package consists of several courses in Medical Radiation Physics and can be followed in full or in part depending on your previous experience. Please note that after finishing the Course Package you still need a Bachelor’s degree in physics or equivalent to be eligeble to the Master's programme.
The Course Package helps you bridge the gap between a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics and being eligible for the Master’s Programme in Medical Radiation Physics. The package consists of courses on radiation sources, interaction, radiation protection, dosimetry and radiobiology. It takes one academic year to complete. Depending on your previous experience, you may not have to take all of the courses that are included.
The following courses are included:
Quantum Phenomenology and Radiation Physics (FK5015) 7.5 ECTS
Radiation Sources with Medical Applications (FK5036) 9 ECTS
Interaction of Ionizing Radiation with Matter (FK5037) 10.5 ECTS
Radiation Detectors and Measuring Methods (FK5030) 7.5 ECTS
Radiation Dosimetry (FK5031) 7.5 ECTS
Basic Radiobiology (FK7065) 9 ECTS
Radiation protection with environmental radiology (FK8050) 9 ECTS
Exempted from courses within the Course Package
Depending on your previous academic background, you may not have to take all of the courses that are included within the Course Package in Medical Radiation Physics. An exemption to a course within the Course Package means that you do not have to study this particular course to be eligible to our Master’s programme in Medical Radiation Physics.
To be exempted from courses within the Course Package in Medical Radiation Physics you need to send the request to studievagledare@fysik.su.se. The e-mail should include:
- List of the courses that you want to be exempted from.
- Official transcript from previous studies.
- List of the courses in your transcript that you think corresponds to the courses you want to be exempted from.
- Syllabus or official course description of the courses in point 3.
If you cannot get an official course description from your university, you can instead include a certificate from the teaching professor of the course, describing the course content.
You need to send us this at least three weeks before the autumn semester starts, in order for us to be able to assess your request in time. If you send us the request later than three weeks before the autumns semester start, we will not have the time to assess your request in time, and you might have to repeat studies in topics that you have already covered.
