Advanced Landscape Ecology
The course provides you with a deeper understanding of the methods and techniques used to understand how landscape structure and change shape ecological processes, ecosystems, and patterns in the distribution of plants and animals.
During the course, you will develop a keen analytical ability to interpret how landscape changes affect ecosystems, and you will work with digital databases, GIS technology, and various types of field methods. You will have the opportunity to critically examine data, select relevant tools, and apply theory to practical analysis.
A central part of the course is planning and carrying out a landscape ecology project independently. Here, you’ll address questions that span both time and space and delve into theoretical perspectives that help you understand ecological processes across multiple scales. By combining theoretical components with practical field exercises, you’ll gain concrete, research-oriented experience of how landscape ecology studies are conducted in the real world.
The course prepares you to address complex issues related to biodiversity, nature conservation, and sustainable land use—and equips you with the tools needed to contribute to the ecological solutions of the future.
The course is part of Master´s Programme in Landscape Ecology but can also be read as a separate course.

Plagiarism and regulations for disciplinary matters
As a student you must be conscientious about clearly accounting for the material used in the texts that are submitted for examination. To use another person’s expressions or ideas without stating the source is plagiarism. To translate and/or change some words in someone else’s text and present it as your own is also a form of plagiarism. Plagiarism is considered cheating and if discovered in an exam or paper, the exam or paper will be failed immediately and disciplinary measures may be taken.
Any student who is caught cheating or disrupting academic activities may be suspended from lectures and exams for a period of up to six months. The Vice Chancellor or the Disciplinary Council decide whether the student is to be subject to any disciplinary measures.
