Love and Resistance: Poetry and Narration in Japanese Court Literature

The course covers a study of representative fictional texts from the Heian period (794-1185) with an emphasis on the court literature of the tenth and eleventh centuries.

In this primarily feminine poetical and narrative discourse love and resistance as figures for interpretation and re-interpretation in a discussion of central themes and concepts.

The course consists of one module, 7.5 credits.

Assessment

The examination is in the form of a take-home assignment.
