Queer Asia

This course introduces the expanding body of research that links Asian and Queer studies.

The course sheds light on gender and sexual diversity in both modern and pre-modern East Asian environments, and it examines related floating identities mainly through examples from literature, performing arts, art history and popular media. In doing so, the course examines the cultural features that seemingly resemble transnational phenomenas, while undermining essentialist determinism and the dominance of modern Western models.

The course consists of one module 7.5 ECTS.


Teaching Format

The course is given in the form of lectures and seminars.

Attendance at all classes is mandatory.

The teaching is given in English and mainly online via Zoom.

Assessment

The course is examined through a digital take-home exam at the end of the course.

Examiner

The schedule will be available no later than one month before the start of the course. We do not recommend print-outs as changes can occur. At the start of the course, your department will advise where you can find your schedule during the course.


Note that the course literature can be changed up to two months before the start of the course.
