The Representational Power of Journalism
Journalism has historically held an influential position in society, as journalistic decisions regarding perspectives, sources, and framing have shaped the boundaries of public discourse. The course emphasizes how journalistic constructions of reality have evolved in tandem with technological advancements and how the concept of “news” has become increasingly complex and challenging to define in the digital media landscape.
For a passing course grade, the student must be able to:
-account for relevant theory building and research on journalism's constructions of reality
-critically and systematically analyze journalistic representations and frames and their societal, political and social meanings.
