SULaw's Summer Programme

This course is designed to unpack, engage with and discuss various issues of criminal justice and the law of evidence. By focusing on eyewitness identification evidence in particular, this course will provide students with a holistic understanding of theories around criminal justice and the purpose of criminal courts, as well as key concepts in the field of evidence, including standards of proof and debates around truth and facts in the legal context. This will be understood in conjunction with the findings of psychological research on human memory, and how its functioning impacts the reliability of eyewitness identifications, thus informing our understanding of the purpose, nature, and rationales behind the assessment of evidence in criminal courts.
