The course Advanced Course in Public International Law is given within the framework of the Master of Laws Programme in International Law at the Department of Law, Stockholm University.

Several basic concepts are presented in the course, including substantive rights and the various mechanisms for the protection of human rights. Human rights are also be discussed from historical, philosophical and critical perspectives. The course draws special attention to the problem of establishing human rights legislation on the basis of existing sources of law.

The learning objectives, activities, and examination criteria for the course are outlined in the syllabus. Teaching Format

Instruction is given in the form of lectures, group discussions and problem-based seminars. The course is divided into five different parts.


Assessment

The course’s learning outcomes are examined through the writing of an essay, through a written sit-in examination and through mandatory active attendance of the problem-based seminar.
