Politics and Religions in Chinese Contexts

The course focuses on the fundamentals of politics and religion in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and the diaspora.

During the course, Chinese concepts regarding politics, religion, science and superstition are analysed.

An important question is the role and conditions of religion in modern China.

Regional and global networks of believers will be studied in depth.

Questions concerning identity and citizenship are another focus of the course.

The globalization of indigenous Chinese traditions such as Confucianism and Daoism is also addressed.

The course consists of one module, 7.5 credits.


Teaching Format

Instruction is given in the form of lectures and seminars.

Attendance at all teaching sessions is mandatory.


Assessment

The examination is in the form of a short oral report and a final take-home exam.
