Latin American Social History
The course focuses on how different strategically important social groups have been developed and inserted into Latin American society, such as the military, the Church, the landed elite, the business community, women, labour and peasants etc.

It analyses the constellation and stratification of social forces at different historical junctures as well as historically changing power relations within these groups. The course puts emphasis on the formation of modern Latin American society since the 1930s onwards. In relation to this, it re-introduces and discusses concepts and phenomena such corporatism, positivism, clientelism, and populism.
