Language in Use

This is a Master's level course in Linguistics. The course provides a basis for linguistic analysis above sentence level by offering a broad orientation in discourse and interaction analysis.

Language in Useprovides a theoretical and methodological basis for linguistic analysis above sentence level, by offering a broad orientation in current theories and methods in discourse and interaction analysis.

It also aims to provide experience in applying these methods to linguistic data and to analyse and discuss linguistic data by drawing on current discourse theoretical approaches.



Teaching Format

The course is based on lectures and seminars.


Assessment

The course is examined through written assignments and a written report.

The schedule will be available no later than one month before the start of the course. We do not recommend print-outs as changes can occur. At the start of the course, your department will advise where you can find your schedule during the course.


Note that the course literature can be changed up to two months before the start of the course.

(Note that older editions are very different and that we will use the 3rd edition.)

The textbook may be complemented by additional literature not exceeding 150 pages.
