Mediatized Intersections: class, ethnicity, gender, sexuality

Fotograf Jens Olof Lasthein
The course conveys knowledge of different theoretical perspectives and empirical studies on how the media represent the various aspects of social identity such as class, ethnicity, gender and sexuality.
The concept of intersectionality is used as a starting point to describe and explain how media representations construct identities and which power structures underlie these representations.
For a passing result on the course, the student must be able to:
- demonstrate the ability to critically and systematically analyze and interpret the significance of the media's way of representing class, ethnicity, gender and sexuality and how these representations relate to power structures in different cultures.
