Empirical Research Methodology for Computer and Systems Sciences
The course introduces scientific research methods and discusses how to conduct scientific investigations in a specific area, develop and support well-founded argument and practice scientific writing.
The course also provides an overview of planning, execution and reporting a research project. It introduces ethical considerations as well as the role of science and scientific knowledge in society.
The course includes the following:
- Searching, retrieving, and assessing literature
- Formulating research questions
- Introduction to research design/strategies, research methods, data collection and analysis techniques
- Introduction to planning, executing and reporting a research project
- Introduction to societal and ethical aspects of research while planning, executing, and reporting a research project
- Scientific writing
- The role of science and scientific knowledge in society
Teaching Format
Instruction is given in the form of lectures.
The language of instruction is English.
The teaching activities are entirely distance-based and take place online.
Assessment
The course is examined through a remote written exam and assignments.
Examiner
The schedule will be available no later than one month before the start of the course.
