Analytical Perspectives and the Study of Power in the Social Sciences, in English
The aim of this course is to give students a deeper knowledge on a number of central analytical approaches to the study of politics, as well as a deeper knowledge on how politics can be understood - both explicit and implicit - and studied with these analytical approaches as a basis.
The students shall reach a deepened understanding of how various theoretical and empirical studies are more or less characterized, or affected, by the choice of analytical approach. The central analytical approaches are: rational choice, institutionalism, feminism, constructivism and normative theory.
Teaching Format
The course is based on seminars and lectures.
Assessment
The course is examined by a take-home examination.
The schedule will be available no later than one month before the start of the course.
We do not recommend print-outs as changes can occur. At the start of the course,
your department will advise where you can find your schedule during the course.
Note that the course literature can be changed up to two months before the start of the course.
