How to select courses as an exchange student
In order to come to Stockholm University as an exchange student your home university must have a formal agreement for exchange studies with Stockholm University. This agreement can either be a departmental agreement or a university-wide agreement.

How to select courses as an incoming exchange student on university-wide agreements
Stockholm University offers a wide range of courses taught in English at both bachelor’s and master’s level for incoming exchange students.

Please note that some departments offer courses specifically for incoming exchange students that may not be listed in the course catalogue. Here are courses available from 2026, please note that these courses can change.
- Department of Computer and System Sciences
- Department of Law Only for CIVIS students
- Department of Psychology
- Department of Child and Youth Studies
- Stockholm Business School Courses with a code starting with FE9xxx are not available for exchange students
- Department of Economy
- Department of Archaeology and Classical Studies
A full semester at Stockholm University corresponds to 30 credits, which is equivalent to 30 ECTS. When searching for courses, be sure that you fulfill the eligibility requirements for each individual course, and include plenty of reserve courses in your selection. All courses should be pre-approved by your home university.
English language requirements
No English certificate is needed for incoming exchange students. Please note that a high English proficiency is required to be able to pursue studies at Stockholm University.
Swedish courses for international students
As an incoming exchange student you are offered optional language classes in Swedish, free of charge. These courses can be taken in addition to the standard 30 credits per semester. You can find more information here:
