The Kungstenen Scholarship

The scholarship will cover full tuition and living expenses for one student beginning his/her master’s programme at Stockholm University in September 2019. The total amount of the scholarship is up to 488.880 SEK. Stockholm University and the University of Tokyo share an alliance to support student mobility, as well as research collaboration and an active commitment toward society. This scholarship makes it possible for a student graduated from the University of Tokyo to study a fully-funded master’s programme at Stockholm University. A talented student will be selected and the studies will include participation in activities involving the partnership between the two universities.

To apply you must

  • Be a student in your final year of bachelor’s studies at the University of Tokyo or a recent graduate from the University of Tokyo

  • Be prepared to act as a student ambassador for the two universities

Application process

  • Apply to a master’s programme at Stockholm University by January 15, 2019 on universityadmissions.se.

  • Pay a non-refundable application fee (900 SEK) and document your eligibility by February 1, 2019.
  • Write a one-page motivation statement and send it by e-mail to tuitionfeescholarship@su.se by Feb. 1, 2019. The statement should include your name and the application number from universityadmissions.se. Write “Kungstenen Scholarship SU FV-2.1.9-3788-18” in the email subject field

All deadlines are midnight CET (Central European Time) on the date indicated.

Selection process

The selection will be based on the academic quality of the candidate’s previous studies and on the statement about why he/she hopes to be selected for studies at Stockholm University. The scholarship will only be given to a student who is admitted to a master’s programme at Stockholm University.
The scholarship recipient will be announced after the Notification of selection results for the master’s programme is published, which will be by the beginning of April. An offer of student accommodation will also be included.
