How to apply to Erasmus internships abroad

On this page, you will find information on how to apply for Erasmus+ traineeships.

Note that the application process is relatively long and requires planning. A Learning Agreement for Traineeships needs to be approved by all parties (the host organization, your departments and the International Office) before you can access the application form.

The Erasmus+ traineeship application must be submitted at least 6 weeks prior to the start of the traineeship and all the Erasmus+ requirements need to be met by the time of application.

Find the steps on how to apply for an internship below.

1. Find an internship

You are responsible for finding an eligible traineeship/internship/work placement.

Contact your home department for tips and guidance regarding internship and career opportunities. You may also look at:

2. Fill in a Learning Agreement and get it approved

Once you have found and been offered a traineeship/internship/work placement meeting the criteria and you fulfil the programme requirements, you should contact the departmental international coordinator for an assessment. If the internship can be approved to be acceptable and relevant for your studies, all three parties (you, the department, and receiving organization/enterprise) have to agree on the Learning Agreement for Traineeship.

The document can be provided by your international coordinator through the Staff webpage of Stockholm University.

Before your Learning Agreement for Traineeship is signed by all parties, check that:

  • the document is complete,
  • your name and correct academic year are indicated in the header,
  • the scope of your traineeship is full-time, i.e 40 hours per week,
  • the traineeship starts and ends on a weekday. If you will be working weekeds, this needs to be clearly stated in the learning agreement, under “Detailed programme of the traineeship”,
  • your work tasks are clearly described under “Detailed programme of the traineeship”. General descriptions are not approved!

Once completed and signed, the Learning Agreement for Traineeship should be uploaded in the online-application form.

3. Grant application

Once the internship/traineeship has been approved by the department, you meet all the requirements for Erasmus+ traineeships, and you have signed a Learning agreement, you can apply for the Erasmus+ grant.

Email erasmusutbyte@su.se to get access to the online application form.

Students who participate in an Erasmus+ mobility that lasts longer than 13 days must take a mandatory language test in the main language of instructions before the mobility begins. There is also an opportunity to participate in an online language course to improve your language skills before and during the stay abroad.

Language assessment and courses

Note that the application form needs to be submitted at least 6 weeks before the start of the internship. Scholarships will not be granted for traineeships that have already started.

You can apply for the traineeship grant between August 1 and 31 May. During the months of June and July, we do not accept or handle Erasmus+ traineeship applications. During the holiday season (December/January) processing time may be slightly longer. Apply in good time if you would like to apply for an Erasmus+ traineeship with intended start in July/August/September or January/February.

If your application has been successful, you will receive information about the mandatory steps to be completed before the start of the traineeship.
