There are different types of Erasmus+ traineeships. The traineeship can be:

  • Voluntary traineeship, e.g. as summer internship, outside your regular study programme, but before graduation.
  • Recent graduate, after you completed your studies at Stockholm University. To take part in Erasmus+ traineeship recent graduate, you need to apply during your final semester/course at Stockholm University, before graduation. The Erasmus+ traineeship must take place within 12 months after graduation. If you already completed your studies and applied for your degree certificate you are no longer eligible to apply.

To be eligible to participate in Erasmus+ traineeship you need to fulfil the following requirements:

  • Be a registered and active student at Stockholm University at the time of application. This means that you need to be registered and participating in an ongoing course at the time of application.
  • You intend to graduate at Stockholm University (does not apply to “recent graduate”)
  • Have an eligible internship/traineeship/work placement and get it approved by your home department
  • Will do a full-time traineeship/internship at an eligible organization, in an eligible country, according to your Learning Agreement for Traineeship, for a minimum of 60 days, but no more than 360 days per education cycle (bachelor, master or PhD level)
  • Not been on an Erasmus+ mobility before during the same study cycle so that the total mobility period exceeds 360 days (previously and planned mobility)
  • Get the Erasmus+ traineeship recognized by your home department (higher education credits, or at least by a note in the diploma supplement - doesn’t apply to “recent graduate”)
  • Sign a Grant Agreement before departure
  • Submit Arrival Certificate, Traineeship Certificate and Erasmus+ Participant report during and after the mobility.
  • Not accept any other scholarships from the EU or the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR) at the same time.

Additional requirements for short blended mobility for individuals

The target group for short blended mobility is students who cannot participate in a longer mobility, for example because of limitations in the study programme or for other personal reasons such as children in the household.

To be eligible to participate in a short blended traineeship you need to meet the general Erasmus+ traineeship requirements in addition to:

  • The traineeship needs to contain a physical mobility, in the host country for 5-30 days.
  • The traineeship needs to contain a virtual component organised by the host organisation that enhances the learning outcomes and has a clear result.
  • The complete mobility should correspond to at least 3 ECTS.

Please note that your department may have additional requirements. For further information about Erasmus+ traineeship and how it can fit into your study programme, contact the international coordinator at your home department.

Students participating in a semester-long mobility for studies are granted a travel support allowance.

The travel allowance is based on the distance between the place of origin (Stockholm) and the city where the studies will be carried out. It also depends on whether you travel in an environmentally friendly way or not, according to the table below:

Travel distance

Non-green travel (Euro)

Green travel (Euro)

10-99 km 28 56
100-499 km 211 285
500-1999 km 309 417
2000-2999 km 395 535
3000-3999 km 580 785
4000-7999 km 1188 1188
8000 km or more  1735 1735

When the distance to the exchange destination is less than 500 km from Stockholm, participants are expected to travel in an environmentally friendly way. You can travel by train, bus or carpooling (at least two people in the car), and the trip both to and from the host city must be green.
Read more under “Green Travel”, below.

Environment and fight against climate change is one of the priorities of the new Erasmus+ programme 2021-2027. Students who are travelling in an environmentally friendly way will receive a higher travel support grant, if they travel in a more sustainable way (e.g. train, buss, car-pooling) to and from the host destination. For traineeships that begin 2025-08-01 or later, you can receive funding for up to 3 travel days before and after the traineeship, if needed.

You indicate if you are travelling in an environmentally friendly way in the Erasmus+ grant application. If you have questions regarding the criteria for green travel, please contact erasmusutbyte@su.se

Criteria for extra funds for green travel:

  • You will travel in an environmentally friendly way to and from the host country; for instance, you can travel by train, bus or carpool (at least 2 people). Please note that travelling by ferry does not count as green travel.
  • After the end of the mobility you need to provide documentation showing that you have travelled in a sustainable way to and from the host country.
  • If you carpool, you need to submit a carpooling certificate that includes contact detail to the persons you traveled with.
  • Travel days are only granted for travel before the start date and after the end date stated in your Traineeship Certificate.
  • Granted travel days are not counted as part of the mobility period i.e. cannot be counted as part of the minimum requirement of 60 days mobility in order to keep the scholarship.

If you have questions regarding the criteria for green travel, please contact erasmusutbyte@su.se

As student at Stockholm University, you are covered by the insurance Student OUT via Kammarkollegiet during your Erasmus+ traineeship abroad. The insurance Student OUT is free of charge and applies from two weeks before to two weeks after the mobility period within the host country.

It is recommended that you read through the terms and conditions of the insurance on Kammarkollegiet's website, to check if additional insurance coverage is required.

If you are traveling within the EU or EEA you should also bring a valid European Health Insurance Card, which can be ordered at www.forsakringskassan.se.
