Erasmus+ short blended mobility for studies
Students nominated and accepted to a short blended mobility for studies or a Blended Intensive Programme at one of Stockholm University’s partner universities can apply for an Erasmus+ grant.
You can apply for the Erasmus+ grant between 1 August and 31 May. The application needs to be submitted at least six weeks before the start of the mobility.
Eligibility criteria for short blended mobility and Blended Intensive Programmes (BIP)
To be able to participate in an Erasmus+ short blended mobility for studies or in a BIP you need to fulfil the following requirements:
- Be nominated and accepted to a short blended exchange or a BIP at one of Stockholm University’s partner universities within Erasmus+.
- Be a registered and active student at Stockholm University when you apply for the grant.
- You need to intend to graduate from Stockholm University (students on study leave are not eligible).
- The studies need to be full time and contain a physical mobility period for 5-30 days and a compulsory virtual component organised by the host university that enhances the learning outcomes and has a clear result. The length of the virtual component is flexible.
- Have a signed Digital Learning Agreement before departure.
- The complete mobility needs to correspond to at least 3 ECTS and should be recognised at Stockholm University after the completion of the mobility.
- You haven’t participated in Erasmus+ studies or traineeship during the same study level so that the total mobility period exceeds 360 days (previously and planned mobility).
- Take an OLS language assessment (for mobilities with a duration of 14 days or longer).
- Submit Certificate of Attendance and Erasmus+ Participant report after the mobility.
- Not accept any other scholarships from the EU.
Erasmus+ grant – Amount and payment
The Erasmus+ grant is calculated based on the length of the physical mobility and your host destination, including one travel day before and one travel day after the mobility period, if needed. Travel days on the first or last day of the mobility are not counted as travel days and cannot be counted towards the minimum requirement of 5 days. The grant is only granted for the physical part of the mobility. The grant also includes travel support, see additional information under “Travel support grant”. Additional travel days may be added if traveling by environmentally friendly mode of transportation, if necessary. See more information under the heading “Green travel.”
- 79 EUR per day until and including the 14th day
- 56 EUR per day from the 15th day (maximum 30 days)
The scholarship payment is made in two instalments:
- The first payment is made at the beginning of your exchange upon submission of the relevant documents (e.g. Grant agreement). This amounts to 70 percent of your planned scholarship.
- The remaining amount is disbursed after the end of the mobility, upon completion and submission of relevant documentation (e.g. attendance certificate confirming the exact dates of your exchange, see below). The final amount may then be adjusted, based on possible changes in the length of the mobility.
Travel support grant
Students participating in a short-term mobility for studies are granted a travel support allowance.
The travel allowance is based on the distance between the place of origin (Stockholm) and the city where the studies will be carried out. It also depends on whether you travel in an environmentally friendly way or not, according to the table below:
| Travel distance | Non-green travel (Euro) | Green travel (Euro) |
|---|---|---|
| 10 – 99 km | 28 | 56 |
| 100 – 499 km | 211 | 285 |
| 500 – 1999 km | 309 | 417 |
| 2000 – 2999 km | 395 | 535 |
| 3000 – 3999 km | 580 | 785 |
| 4000 – 7999 km | 1188 | 1188 |
| 8000 km eller mer | 1735 | 1735 |
When the distance to the exchange destination is less than 500 km from Stockholm, participants are expected to travel in an environmentally friendly way. You can travel by train, bus or carpool (at least two people in the car), and the trip both to and from the host city must be green.
Green travel
The environment and the fight against climate change is one of the priorities of the Erasmus+ programme 2021-2027. Students who travel in an environmentally friendly way to and from the host country will receive a higher travel support grant and can also receive funding for up to 3 travel days before and 3 travel days after the study period, if necessary. For instance, you can travel by train, bus or carpool (with at least 2 people in the car). Note that the main part of the trip, both to and from the host country, must be green. You indicate if you are travelling in an environmentally friendly way in the Erasmus+ grant application. If you have questions regarding the criteria for green travel, please contact erasmusutbyte@su.se
Criteria for extra funds for green travel:
- You must travel in an environmentally friendly way both to and from the host country. For instance, this could include travel by train, bus or carpooling (with at least two people in the car). Please note that travelling by boat does not count as green travel.
- After the end of the mobility, you need to provide documentation showing that you have travelled in a sustainable way to and from the host country.
- If you carpool, you need to submit a carpooling certificate that includes contact details to the people you traveled with.
- Travel days are only granted for travel before the start date and after the end date stated in your Certificate of Attendance.
- Granted travel days are not counted as part of the mobility period i.e. cannot be counted as part of the minimum requirement of 60 days to keep the scholarship

Support for Erasmus students with children
Students who have minor children and are participating in an Erasmus exchange, can receive an extra top-up added to the original grant amount and regardless of whether the child accompanies the student during the studies abroad or not.
- Short blended mobility including BIP (5-30 days): A top-up of 100 EUR for mobilities with a duration of 5-14 days and 150 EUR for mobilities with a duration of 15-30 days.
You apply for the top-up for children in the Erasmus grant application where you also upload a family certificate from the Tax Agency.
Students who have minor children and are participating in an Erasmus exchange and where the extra costs exceed the amount of the top-up can apply for up to 100 percent coverage for actual costs. Additional costs refer to the increased costs that the student or higher education institution has and that are not financed in another way, such as childcare in the host country.
Please contact the Erasmus-team at the International Office as soon as possible if there are additional costs for your exchange related to having minor children that are not covered by the top-up: erasmusutbyte@su.se.
Support for Erasmus students with a disability
Students with long-term disabilities, including disabilities caused by physical or psychological illness can receive an extra top-up added to the original grant amount.
- Short blended mobility and BIP (5-30 days): A top-up of 100 EUR for mobilities with a duration of 5-14 days and 150 EUR for mobilities with a duration of 15-30 days.
Students apply for the top-up for disability in the Erasmus grant application and will thereafter be contacted with more information on mandatory documentation.
If there are extra expenses during the exchange, due to disability, not covered by the top-up, students can apply for up to 100 percent coverage of actual costs. Expenses may include additional costs that the student or the host university may have that are not covered in another way. This can for example be transportation, teaching aids, special accommodation, assistants, or medical assistance in the country of the students host university.
Students who wish to apply for funding for extra expenses due to disability should contact their International Coordinator or the Erasmus-team at the International Office as soon as possible for more information on how to apply.

Support for Erasmus students with protection status
Students who currently have or previously have had protection status in Sweden, either a refugee status or a subsidiary protection status, can receive an extra top-up added to the original grant amount.
- Short term mobility and short blended mobility including BIP (5-30 days): A top-up of 100 EUR for mobilities with a duration of 5-14 days and 150 EUR for mobilities with a duration of 15-30 days
Students apply for a top-up for protection status in the Erasmus grant application where you also upload a decision from the Swedish Migration Agency.
Before your exchange
Below, you will find important information about your exchange.
You can apply for the Erasmus+ grant for short blended mobility between 1 August and 31 May. The application needs to be submitted at least six weeks before the start of either the physical or the virtual mobility, whichever comes first. The Erasmus+ grant application will be available in Mobility Online after you have been nominated and accepted to a short blended mobility/BIP.
Step 1: Fill in and submit the online application form
The application form is completed digitally in Mobility Online (link coming soon).
In the application you state the start- and end date of both the physical mobility and the virtual component. The physical mobility consists of the days that you conduct your studies physically in the host country.
Application instructions
The application consists of four easy steps:
- Submit the online form with the basic information about your exchange
- Receive a confirmation email to activate your account in Mobility Online
- Log in and confirm your personal details and upload any necessary documents (if applicable)
- Submit your application.
Documents to be uploaded in the application
- Letter of Application issued by the host university. This can also be uploaded at a later stage.
- Travel tickets/invoices from and to the host country for calculation of travel days, if needed. If the tickets/invoices are not submitted in the application, funding for travel days will be added to the last grant payment, after the completion of the mobility.
Email erasmusutbyte@su.se when you have submitted your application or if you have any questions regarding the Erasmus+ grant.
Don’t forget to make sure your exchange is registered in Ladok. Contact your international coordinator to receive support with the registration.
Step 2: Establish a study plan (Digital Learning Agreement)
Before your mobility, you must have arranged a Digital Learning Agreement (DLA) with information about your short-term blended mobility. The DLA should contain a short description of the virtual component and information about how the mobility will be recognised at Stockholm University upon the completion of the mobility. The Digital Learning Agreement is prepared and signed in the system Mobility Online. The DLA must be approved by you, your sending international coordinator/Degree Office and the host university before the start of your mobility.
For further instructions, please contact the international coordinator at your department.
See this link for guidelines on how to use the Digital Learning Agreement:
Guidelines on how to use the Erasmus+ Learning Agreement for Studies (KA131)
Step 3: Sign a Grant Agreement
After you have submitted a complete application and it has been processed, you will receive an Erasmus+ Grant Agreement contract. The Grant Agreement must be signed and uploaded to Mobility Online in good time before the start of the mobility period. If there is no signed contract, no grant payments are made.
Step 4: Read the Erasmus+ Student Charter
The Erasmus+ Student Charter contains information about your rights and obligations as an Erasmus student, please ensure to read it through.
During your exchange
Below, you will find information that is important to know during your exchange.
Changes - extensions, shortenings or interruptions
- If the information in your Digital Learning Agreement changes during the mobility, you need to submit “Changes to DLA” in Mobility Online. The changes should be signed by you, your sending international coordinator and the host university.
- If your exchange period is reduced or extended, you must contact erasmusutbyte@su.se and the responsible international coordinator as soon as possible. Please note that the physical mobility needs to be at least 5 days and no longer than 30 days.
- If the physical mobility is shorter than 5 days you may be required to repay the full grant.
Certificate of Attendance
The Certificate of Attendance must be completed, signed and stamped by the host university at the end of the mobility. The Certificate of Attendance confirms the dates of the physical mobility and the virtual component. Note that it’s only the physical study period that counts towards the grant. Travel days are not counted towards the study period.
Template to download is available in Mobility Online.
After your exchange
Below, you will find information about what you need to do when coming home from your exchange.
Upload Certificate of Attendance and travel tickets
The Certificate of Attendance should be uploaded together with your travel tickets for the journey to and from the host country in Mobility Online. In case of changes to the mobility period and if funding for travel days should be added, the Erasmus+ grant amount will be updated.
Template to download is available in Mobility Online.
Participant Report (Erasmus+ Participant Survey)
When you have completed your mobility, a link to a questionnaire called the Erasmus+ Participant Survey will be sent to you via email. The questionnaire is mandatory for everyone who has participated in an Erasmus+ mobility. Therefore, please contact the Erasmus officer if you have not received this link.
In addition to the questionnaire, your department/International Office may require additional reports. Therefore, check with your international coordinator that they have received all the necessary documentation.
Note that you will not receive your remaining grant until you upload your signed Certificate of Attendance together with your travel tickets, and you have completed the Erasmus Participant Survey.
Apply for a Credit transfer
Once you have completed your exchange studies and received your Transcript of records from your host university, you must apply for credit transfer at Stockholm University. Contact your home department for further information about the process.
