University of Amsterdam

The University of Amsterdam (UvA) has a rich history, being one of the oldest and largest universities in the Netherlands. Furthermore, the UvA is consistently ranked amongst the world's top universities in global rankings.

The history of the University of Amsterdam began roughly four centuries ago, with the establishment of the Athenaeum Illustre in 1632. The Athenaeum was officially recognised as an institution of higher education in 1815 and elevated to university status in 1877. Since then, the University has become a leading institution in the international scientific world, with over 34,000 students, 3,000 PhD researchers, and 6,000 staff members from over one hundred different nationalities.

The university has four open campuses located throughout the city. The Faculty of Science is situated in Amsterdam Science Park, which is a hub for high-quality research, innovation, and entrepreneurship, with one of the largest concentrations of academic education and research facilities in Europe.

Amsterdam is the creative and cultural heart of the Netherlands. With around 800,000 inhabitants, it offers all the advantages of a capital city while retaining a welcoming, small-scale feel. Amsterdam boasts beautiful architecture and over 150 canals, which give the city its distinctive shape and atmosphere. It is home to many museums, art galleries, theatres, concert halls, and delightful parks.

Experience the best of both worlds at this university, which provides a rich history and state-of-the-art research facilities. Immerse yourself in Amsterdam's vibrant cultural scene, enjoy leisurely bike rides around the city, and cruise the picturesque canals.
