Housing for international students

Stockholm University rents furnished rooms and apartments to international students. These apartments are managed by the Housing office at Stockholm University, but are not owned by Stockholm University.

Not all international students are eligible for housing. A government decision allows universities in Sweden to offer accommodations to certain categories of students only.

There is no housing guarantee for those who apply. Due to a shortage of housing in Stockholm, we can only offer accommodations to a limited number of students.

Stockholm University only provides student accommodations for single occupancy.

Who is eligible to apply?

The government allows universities in Sweden to offer accommodations to the following students:

  • International exchange students studying at least one semester
  • Tuition fee-paying students studying at least one semester
  • Doctoral exchange students studying at least one semester
Doctoral students can visit the webpage: Accommodation for visiting researchers

Currently, master students receiving a scholarship from Stockholm University Scholarship Scheme and exchange students are prioritized groups. Due to a high demand for housing from these groups we are usually not able to offer housing to other tuition fee-paying students.

We recommend that all students also read our advice on: how to find housing on the private market.

All admitted exchange students will receive information via email on how to apply for accommodation from Housing Office. Please read more about the process and who is eligible at the link below.

Apply for accommodation exchange students

As an international student at Stockholm University, paying tuition fees, you are eligible for accommodation from Housing Office. However, please note that exchange students are a prioritized group. Master students receiving a scholarship from Stockholm University Scholarship Scheme are also prioritized. Due to a high demand for housing from exchange students we are usually not able to offer housing to tuition fee paying students.

Stockholm University has a limited amount of housing, and therefore we cannot offer accommodation to all international students that have applied. For those that we cannot offer housing, please see advice below on how to find housing on the private market.
