Most international students are at Stockholm University (3 826), Royal Institute of Technology (3,063) and Karolinska Institutet (831).

The statistics are presented in a new report from Stockholm Academy Academic Forum (Staf), which analysed international student mobility in Stockholm during the academic year 2016/2017.

Stockholm is an attractive student city

"Strong figures reflect that Stockholm is a very attractive student city," says Maria Fogelström Kylberg, CEO of Staf. “We have also seen this in global ranking indexes in the spring. In April, for example, Times Higher Education placed Stockholm among the world's four top university cities – along with New York. It is a great recognition that we can be proud of and the result of having several world-leading universities.”

India on the rise

In Stockholm, the largest student groups come from Germany, Finland and China, while the group that has grown the most, with 21 percent, are students from India. The number of French students has also risen by 12 percent since the previous academic year.
