The Minor Field Study-programme aims to broaden and deepen the international expertise of Swedish universities and colleges. MFS is managed by the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR) .

The scholarship partially covers expenses during the period of study, and usually needs to be supplemented by, for example, student aid from CSN. The size of the scholarship is 27,000 SEK.


The next call will open in the beginning of the autumn semester 2017.

To be eligble for the MFS-scholarship the applicant needs to have enough knowledge of the Swedish language to be able to follow the mandatory preparation course that is given by Sida prior to the field study.

A student is eligible if her/she

  • is a registered student at Stockholm University
  • has at least 150 credits (hp) at the time of departure (exception: if the Bachelor degree project is scheduled for semester 5, a minimum of 120 credits (hp) must be registered before departure)
  • not yet has begun PhD-studies
  • has good knowledge of both Swedish and English
  • writes the thesis in English or the official language of the host country
  • is a Swedish citizen or has got permanent residence permit (PUT) in Sweden
    (a Nordic citizien must have been registered in Sweden minimum a year at the time of decision)
